Mumbai, July 16, 2025: An IndiGo flight from New Delhi to Goa was forced to make an emergency landing in Mumbai on Wednesday night after a technical issue was detected mid-air, airline and airport officials confirmed.
Flight 6E 6271, an Airbus A320neo carrying 191 passengers and crew, landed safely at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) at 9:53 pm. The aircraft had departed from Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport and was approximately 100 nautical miles north of Bhubaneswar when the crew noticed an engine issue.
At 9:32 pm, the pilots issued a “PAN PAN PAN” call — an international radio signal used to indicate an urgent situation that doesn’t pose an immediate danger to life — and requested diversion to Mumbai.
CSMIA authorities promptly declared a full emergency at 9:35 pm. Emergency services, including firefighting units and ambulances, were placed on alert and escorted the aircraft upon landing. The emergency was officially withdrawn at 9:57 pm, after the aircraft safely taxied to its parking stand.
“All passengers were safely disembarked and assisted by terminal personnel. Airport operations remained unaffected,” a CSMIA spokesperson said.
IndiGo confirmed the incident in a statement on Thursday, stating: “A technical snag was observed on flight 6E 6271 from Delhi to Goa on July 16. As a precautionary measure, the flight was diverted to Mumbai and landed safely at CSMIA.”
The aircraft will undergo a detailed technical inspection before returning to service. IndiGo added that alternate travel arrangements were being made for passengers to continue their journey to Goa.
Airport authorities confirmed that their terminal operations team remained on standby throughout the event to ensure a smooth response.
