Samsung Galaxy Tab S11 Review: Is It Worth ₹87,999 in India?

Samsung's Tab S11 packs a Dimensity 9400+, Galaxy AI, and 7 years of updates — but at ₹87,999, should Indian buyers choose it over the iPad? Here's the real picture.

Nobody expected Samsung to bring back the base Galaxy Tab S model. After skipping it entirely in the S10 lineup, the company quietly reintroduced the Galaxy Tab S11 in September 2025 — and slipped it the same 3nm Dimensity 9400+ processor as the ₹1.29 lakh Ultra. That's the part worth paying attention to. You're getting flagship-class silicon in a ₹87,999 package, and for India's premium Android market, that changes the conversation completely.

Samsung Brought Back the Tab S11 — And It's Not What You'd Expect

To understand why the Tab S11's return matters, you have to remember how the S10 cycle played out. Samsung released the S10+, S10 Ultra, and eventually the S10 Lite — but there was no standard 11-inch model. Anyone who wanted a compact Samsung flagship tablet was stuck either overpaying for the Plus or settling for last year's specs.

The S11 fixes that gap. Announced at Samsung's Galaxy Event on September 4, 2025, it ships with an 11-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display at 2560 × 1600 pixels, a 120Hz refresh rate, and Dolby Vision playback. The body is 5.5mm thin — genuinely slim for a device this capable — and it weighs 469 grams. The S Pen is included in the box, which still isn't a given in this price range if you're looking across at Apple's ecosystem.

What Is Dimensity 9400+? MediaTek's Dimensity 9400+ is a 3-nanometre chip — the same process node as Apple's A18 — with a single overclocked Cortex-X925 core running at 3.73GHz. It's MediaTek's answer to Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite, and in independent benchmarks, it trades blows at the top. This is the first time Samsung has used a MediaTek chip in its flagship tablet line.

The Specs That Actually Matter for Daily Use

Here's the interesting part — Samsung didn't just put a fast chip in and call it done. The Tab S11 comes with 12GB of RAM across all Indian variants, starting at 128GB storage and going up to 512GB. There's a microSD slot for expansion up to 2TB, which Apple still refuses to offer at any price. Battery is 8,400mAh with 45W fast charging.

The camera situation is fine, not exciting. A 13MP rear shooter handles scanning documents and the occasional video call backdrop. The front gets a 12MP 120° ultrawide — the wide angle here is genuinely useful for group calls, especially the kind that became a daily habit post-2020. Don't buy this for photography. That's not what it's for.

How Does Galaxy AI Work in Practice?

This is where Samsung's pitch gets genuinely interesting — and also where you should stay a little skeptical. Galaxy AI on the Tab S11 includes Circle to Search, AI Writing Assist, Note Assist, and Live Translate during calls. Gemini Live is supported too, with screen-sharing so you can literally point the tablet at something and ask Google's AI to explain it in real time.

The S Pen integration with AI is the best version of this I've seen on Android. Writing Assist can clean up handwritten notes, fix letter shapes, and even solve math equations written by hand inside Samsung Notes. That last one — the "Solve Math" feature — sounds gimmicky until you've used it with a student who writes out a quadratic and gets working steps back. It's actually useful.

But. Samsung confirmed Galaxy AI features are free only until the end of 2025. What happens after that is still unclear. That's a real question nobody should ignore when paying ₹87,999 for a device whose main selling point is AI.

"Galaxy AI will be provided for free until end of 2025 on supported Samsung Galaxy devices."

What This Means for Indian Buyers Right Now

Let's put the ₹87,999 price in context. The 11th-gen iPad starts at ₹33,999 in India — that's a massive gap. But the iPad doesn't come with a stylus, doesn't have a microSD slot, and runs iPadOS rather than Android. If you're already deep in Google's ecosystem — Drive, Docs, Meet, YouTube Premium — the Tab S11 fits more naturally into daily life than Apple's tablet does.

For students at IITs and IIMs, or professionals who switch between office desktops and work-from-home setups, the DeX Mode on Tab S11 is a real differentiator. Connect it to a monitor and a keyboard, and you get something close to a desktop interface. It's not perfect, but it's good enough to leave the laptop at home on lighter days.

The 7-year software update promise is also significant in India, where people tend to hold onto devices longer than markets like the US or Europe. Buying a ₹88K tablet and getting guaranteed support through 2032 is a reasonable long-term investment — especially compared to budget Android tablets that stop receiving updates within 18 months.

DeX Mode — What It Actually Does Samsung DeX turns the Tab S11 into a desktop-like environment when connected to an external monitor via USB-C. You get resizable app windows, a taskbar, and keyboard/mouse support. It's surprisingly capable for document work, presentations, and multi-window browsing — though heavy creative tools and coding still work better on a proper laptop.

The One Thing Samsung Still Hasn't Fixed

There's a frustrating pattern with Samsung tablets — and the S11 hasn't broken it. The app ecosystem on Android tablets is still behind iPadOS. Most Indian apps, from banking to OTT platforms, are built for phone screens first. They work on the Tab S11, but many don't use the larger canvas well. You end up with stretched phone apps more often than you'd like.

That said, Android 16 with One UI 8 does make real strides in multitasking. The updated taskbar, split-screen handling, and pop-up windows are noticeably better than what the S10 series shipped with. Google has also been pushing developers harder to optimize for large screens, and the improvement is visible in apps like Gmail, Chrome, and YouTube.

The real question isn't whether the Tab S11 is a good tablet. It clearly is. The question is whether the ₹54,000 premium over an iPad makes sense for your specific use case. If you live in Google's world, carry an Android phone, and want to use the S Pen properly — yes, it does. If you just want something to stream shows and video call your family, you can spend far less.

  • Best-in-class Android performance — The Dimensity 9400+ makes the Tab S11 the fastest Android tablet available in India, period, and it's the same chip inside the ₹1.29L Ultra.
  • S Pen + Galaxy AI is genuinely useful — Note-taking, math solving, and handwriting cleanup work well together, and the AI feels integrated rather than bolted on — for now.
  • 7-year updates matter more in India — For buyers who hold devices for 4–5 years, Samsung's update commitment translates to real long-term value that Android rivals at lower prices don't offer.

"The Tab S11 is the first time Samsung has made the standard-size flagship tablet worth buying again — not just as a compromise below the Ultra, but as a device with its own clear identity." — NavsoraTimes Editorial Assessment, April 2026.
